Energy Systems is an energy-reactive audiovisual installation that adapts its form based on changing factors of natural and virtual phenomena. Taking reference from Karen Barad’s theories of intra-actions and the Chinese principle of 氣 (Qi), the piece investigates how the invisible forces of nature can participate in a speculative instrument system alongside human bodies. It highlights the potential for performance collaboration with the fluctuations of the environment—an aspect often neglected in an increasingly immaterial world, prompting interconnectedness with the surroundings.

Energy Systems continuously evolves according to its location, its pixels moving according to the situated site’s wind energy as well as the participants’ energy through voice and movement, creating an ever-changing, unique piece. Participants use a constructed instrument, that is made out of a microphone and gyroscope as well as shaped to encourage movement.
